Ladies in Leather?
After stopping for a morning gas break we realized we stopped on Woody Guthrie Rd in OK...one of mom's favorite poet/musicians. This link takes you to an NPR interview with Woody about writing "This Land is Your Land" when he first arrived in New York from Oklahoma.
M & D have been annoying me, singing the Oklahoma song's chorus (Mom had no idea Hugh Jackman sang in this musical. She said that would have been something to see!!!)
We didn’t expect this southern part of OK to be this this lush with verdant green, trees, grasses, bushes and so forth. We talked to one of our OK friends about it. Denise said, it's because they have had a very rainy summer...very unusual for them.
We took the Indian Nations Turnpike which we just paid dearly to use. M & D have no idea what they are doing with the tolls, but it’s not fixing this road. It’s horrendous!
M & D started laughing because Get Your Kicks on Route 66 by the Four Freshman came on the radio...That type of musical coincidence has happened often on this trip...weird!
Mom couldn’t resist taking a few photos now and then. It’s really pretty down here. We just passed through Ft Towson, OK with an ugly, old train bridge that reminded her of being on the Loop.
We think we are in Choctaw country? Mom says that part of the fun of helping me create my blog is learning so much historic and/or cultural trivia...not that any of us will remember it...LOL
Passed a big International Paper plant; since then, every big semi coming towards us has been loaded with logs.
We stopped at a Love’s and the next thing I know dad changed clothes while mom switched to sandals. . It’s so much warmer now...about 20 degrees since we started this morning.
As we were discussing how pretty it is here, Frank Sinatra’s “The House I Live In” came on...Coincidence?
We have had that happen a lot on this trip.
Red River of the South Mom kept seeing this River snaking through all these states on her Waze map. It passes West to East through TX, AR, OK & LA
We just passed a rural elementary school south of Texarkana: as they were outside playing, not a mask in sight. Hope that means Covid isn’t in this area!
Mom could only get one shot of this pretty river; so here is one that gives you a better sense of how long it is...
After a long overcast but uneventful drive, we saw this sign in the distance...
We arrived at our latest KOA to see loads of trees and grass!!! Did I mention how much I love grass and trees to sniff and do my business on???
As soon as we were settled, mom took me to the dog park to play ball. She won’t let me play with any dogs right now because I’m in something she calls heat. (I just know that I have to constantly clean myself when she doesn’t have my diaper on….YUCKY!)
Heard her talking to Kathy at my Vet’s office about me being fixed when we get home. Oh NO! I'm not liking the sound of that conversation!!!
One of the cool things they had at our RV site was a swing. Dad got to show me how it worked. Relaxing…
M & D started talking to their women neighbors in the big RV with toy hauler next to us. It turns out the Texarkana Harley Davidson was sponsoring the largest “Ladies in Leather” Parade and Rally in the country this weekend. (Only women could ride in the parade.) They were very nice to talk to...
Gary Arbuckle took these wonderful photos, if you care to see more, go to the website link...We had left by the time the parade started...
We awoke to another overcast, cooler day to start. We have almost 300 miles to Baton Rouge. but fortunately mom and dad told me, most of it is on good highways…I can nap so much better when it isn't rough
