We now know How the "Wicked Witch" Felt... WE ARE MELTING!!!
Cove Resort Blythe, CA July 31. 2020
This trip has afforded such a wonderful variety of views and vistas. This morning, we decided to travel the Route 66 Loop through Williams, Arizona's Historic Downtown. This tiny town was one of last towns to be bypassed by I-40 in 1984, but they have done a fantastic job of retaining the allure.
After looking over what this area has to offer, it would be a wonderful area for us to return. There’s hiking, kayaking, fishing and so forth, as well as, close proximity to the Grand Canyon. Instead of driving there, you can ride the restored 1906 Grand Canyon Steam Engine Train into the Grand Canyon's South Rim, bike or hike. If you chose to get train tickets make sure to buy them in advance, so you won't be closed out.

It’s another beautiful day for a drive. We are hoping that the weather report for Blythe, CA is wrong. It’s suppose to be 121, dry heat. YIKES! 👀😱🐶🔥☀️
Dad has observed that so often as we travel, we are paralleling railroads 🚞; especially out West. It’s also ironic because at points as we travel I-40 W, we can see the Historic Route 66, as it is parallel to us.
We will return in Sept on that route, where we are able??? Some of that Route 66 is now gravel roads; I’m guessing dad won’t travel those roads pulling our trailer. I get it!
Today’s morning scenery mirrors yesterday afternoon with lots of tree lined plains in between mountains and large rocks. We are ever so grateful that this stretch of road is far smoother than much of yesterday’s…
Stopped at Kingman, AZ for gas, we will return here again, thanks to Route 66. It was so nice, they had a bit of green grass. Woof! Woof!
Not far out of town, close to Route 66 was the UFO Museum Not high on my list!
The Byrds, Turn! Turn! Turn! came on the radio, it seemed to fit my mood...I’m feeling pretty mellow thanks to some snacks from mom.
As we passed the Colorado River once again, we entered into California. It’s definitely desert 🌵 and high mesas out here; not to mention we are up to 117 degrees at Noon. We had to pass through an agricultural stop, where they ask you what you are carrying in the way of certain items. We passed!!! I-95 is another winding two lane road, with lots of commercial traffic.
Right now, some of the taller desert cactus have beautiful yellow blooms on their tops. Otherwise, it’s pretty desolate out here. All of us are praying, we don’t breakdown. Since cell reception is scarce, occasionally there are call boxes. What’s really nuts to us is that many of the larger rocks have been tagged??? …Some very, bored, athletic teenagers is mom’s guess…
Dad couldn’t help commenting on the high gas prices as we crossed into CA. Wow!!!
We eventually started seeing these tiny manufactured homes for Seniors Citizens. Why anyone would like to live out here is beyond us??? They must like it hot and the homes are extremely affordable by CA housing prices because they are definitely in the middle on nowhere…
After we passed the Palo Alto Diversion Dam, more farms appeared. Whatever they grow up here has to like it sunny and hot. Mainly, we are seeing hay bales in the fields.
Cove RV Park is beautiful and I’m so very grateful for grass!
Hoping mom can find the energy to walk me down to the RV’s boat ramp on the Colorado River. However, with the temperature hovering around 118. I’m not counting on it! (I was right!…Too HOT!!!)
With the heat that high, even I had a hard time cooling down. Mom gave us both a cold shower. Quite a feat, given how tiny our trailer shower is!!! For the first time on this trip, we all are wishing we had more fans or another tiny AC unit…
We were so very hot, that I enjoyed a full meal, but mom and dad settled for some cheese and crackers and tons to drinks, primarily water!!! Mom kept feeding all of us ice cubes…for me the ice cubes serve two purposes…keeping me cool and helping mom clean our floors…(since I'm a very messy drinker)...Sorry, mom!
After watching more West Wing episodes to distract us, we went to bed early…We have crossed into Pacific Time and it always takes mom and I longer to adjust.
It’s only got down to 94 degrees at 6 AM…so the sooner we get on the road, the better! So happy, our truck's AC is wonderful…we even have air cooled seats!
It’s hard to comprehend how so many people in this particular county and around the world, not only suffer in this type of extreme heat, but have no running water or adequate sanitary conditions…
Once, again we thank God for all our Blessings…
We are beyond excited to see Mike, Katie, Elise and Clara tomorrow…Mom told me that she bought me socks to wear when I’m around them…so my enthusiasm doesn’t cause me to accidentally scratch the girls…even with my trimmed nails…I’m not sure whether I should be insulted???

After a leisurely breakfast and some ball playing we were off. Since AZ was an exit away, we crossed back for some cheap gas, before heading to our month’s long destination in Escondido at Sunland RV Park & Resort. It’s 9 AM and 104. Cooler temps ahead...Yippee and Woof! Woof! 🔥🌤🐶👌👍🤩
