Toot, Toot, Wait for Us!!! What?!!!

Mom forgot to add her favorite sculpture garden photo from Edge of Cedars State Park...we both loved this deer...Earl, our jeweler friend asked how they were made. They are metal with plaster? overlays...(if we correctly remember the description.)

Grand Canyon Railway & RV Park                   July 30. 2020

Today, we are traveling to Williams, AZ

When mom made our one night reservation, they couldn’t believe we didn’t want to ride their 1906 Grand Canyon Steam Train. No, Thank You! ...not in this pandemic!

On the way, we hoped to stop at the Four Corners Monument.

It was a very, bumpy two lane road!!! I had an even more terrible time typing than usual! HOLY COW!!! And, mom struggled to photograph...

Mom apologizes for some of these photos that aren't so good or that you have maybe seen before...

So this monument is the only place in the USA, I can stand in four states at one spot. Pretty groovy!  Who can figure out which states???

Bummer!!! It was closed because it’s on a Navajo Reservation, another tribe suffering during this pandemic!

Since we couldn't go there, mom borrowed these two photos off the Internet...

If you want to say that you were in four states at once, here is the pose or I suppose you could lay down and spread out?

This beautiful sign falling apart is what we see so much out here on the reservations...makes us feel very sad...

It’s another day of seeing expansive vistas. Looks can be deceiving here because there are an incredible number of mesas, arroyos, plains, valleys and cliffs. We are seeing a few trailers, tiny homes and open horse stalls on these Reservations. They are pretty unassuming to say the least.

It's a hard land to live out here even with a good income...all this heat, sun and wind takes an awful toil...

Many of the reservations have mobile trailers...these appeared a bit newer...

but, the beauty can still be found everywhere...

A newer structure with that interesting large pock-like mark on the hill behind...
What we have observed out here are that distances are hard to judge...that hill might be a mile or more away from this house...

Mom was so excited that she finally shot a good photo of some of the gorgeous horses...

The terrain goes back and forth between this type of scenery with some greener trees, grasses and bushes to...

But, the barb wire is constant...

As I have said before, one of the few enterprises still open on the reservations...we really appreciated that; since dad doesn't like to let his gas tank lower than about half...

I'm sure these were open under essential services...

A ranch tucked up into these hills...

"I can see for miles and miles"...

until I can't see, as we round a bend...

The good news is that we have seen a couple modern looking health centers.

Channeling Ansel Adams, Mom had to turn a few of her shots into black and white...

Except for the roads and power lines, we have literally driven for miles with few signs of civilization.
Kayenta was the first to have multiple inns, restaurants and gas stations. After we passed through it, we saw more 🌳.

This gas stations' architectural design was so appropriate for this area...

When we drove through Cameron, AZ, M & D remembered being at that Trading Center; before heading to the Painted Desert. One spring break, they had stayed overnight at one of the Grand Canyon South Rim cabins and next morning woke to a light April snow. Even covered in snow, the canyon was breathtaking!!! Currently, our truck’s outside thermometer is reading 105. 🤪

and, the temperature keeps rising...

This school didn't look big but it did look well maintained

Thought this saying was so apropo for the day...

After entering the Coconino Forest, we are heading back into the mountains. As dad said, “It’s our day to hit construction!” As we entered Flagstaff, it’s our third extended stop. Ugh!

Meanwhile, our San Diego tribe were keeping themselves busy with experiences around their home base...
Here Katie was trying to see if Clara would like riding this way...she was not crazy about it

She needs her feet free to move...we have named her the Dancing Queen...or at least Princess

Sometimes big or old, a nap is in order...

Driving pulling a 8,000 lb. trailer is stressful; so we try not to go farther than 350 miles per day or about 5-6 hours.

Elise practicing some dance moves...dressed in her favorite color...

We knew we were in Williams, AZ when we stopped at this gas station...

We are staying by the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel that was established in 1901.

I saw that they have a Fred Harvey Restaurant (that we won't be using), but hope they have retained some of the original features.

When we are only staying for a night, these pull throughs are wonderful!!!

Out west you see these four wheel drive vehicles everywhere!

They do look like fun!!!

Once again, not a stick of grass anywhere...good thing that I've become very flexible, even if I'm not happy about it! JEEEZZZZ!
